Cultural and educational event “Embroidery on clothes as a cultural asset and an expression of the national identity of Ukrainians

Dear colleagues!

On May 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. before Vyshyvanka Day and as part of the All-Ukrainian Science Festival, the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Council of Young Scientists and the Council of Graduates of the Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology (IMFE) named after M.T. The Ryl National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the participation of interested scientific youth from other institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, young researchers from the Kyiv Small Academy of Sciences invite you to visit the online cultural and educational event “Embroidery on clothing as a cultural asset and an expression of the national identity of Ukrainians“, which timed to Vyshyvanka Day.

According to the assembly program:

  1. Volodymyr Shchybrya (candidate of historical sciences, director of the Folklore and Ethnography Center of Taras Shevchenko KNU Institute of Philology) will tell about the history of the beginning of Vyshyvanka Day and modern social and cultural manifestations of celebrating the holiday;
  2. the issue of the interaction of modern academic ethnology with artistic centers for the reproduction and popularization of embroidered clothing will be revealed by Maryna Oliynyk (Candidate of Science, Scientific Collaborator of the Department “Ukrainian Ethnological Center” IMFE);
  3. Ihor Tureyskyi, a post-graduate student of the IMFE, will inform about the peculiarities of traditional Ukrainian children’s clothing;
  4. Natalia Lytvynchuk (Candidate of Science, Scientific Collaborator of the Department “Ukrainian Ethnological Center” IMFE) emphasizes the informational potential of visual sources (photos) and the importance of recording their commenting by the bearers of tradition;
  5. named ethnologists and head of RMU IMFE, science. collaborator Oleksandr Golovko will make a presentation of the 10th volume of the corpus of expeditionary folklore and ethnographic materials “Ethnographic Image of Modern Ukraine”, which is entitled “Traditional Everyday and Ceremonial Clothing”.
